TO SAVE THE HERMOSA BEACH POST OFFICE

Jeff Duclos and Mordy Benjamin Are Recruiting Local Businesses in the Effort

Various local residents have been collecting petition signatures for more than a month endeavoring to save the Hermosa Beach Post Office from closing its doors. City Council candidate Jeff Duclos and long time resident Mordy Benjamin have decided to add resident-serving local businesses to this important effort. They have formulated a petition (copy attached) and created a window sign that reads “Save Our Post Office – Sign Inside” and have walked Pier Avenue on Monday (10/26) and the downtown areas to secure business support. The response to date has been overwhelmingly positive.

Among the businesses agreeing to help gather signatures are Skin Medix, Hermosa Lock and Key and Dentist Vera Deutsch, located immediately adjacent to the Post Office, as well as Pier Avenue businesses such as Star Antique Mart, Bow Wow Boutique, The Bike Shop, State Farm Insurance and Los Muchachos. Downtown businesses include Bank of America, City Bank and Kinecta Credit Union. The petition is also available at the UPS Store in the Von’s Shopping Center.

They plan to continue the effort through this week, expanding their focus to the other business corridors in the city. Any business interested in receiving a copy of the petition and the window sign should call (310) 374-6921. At the appropriate time, the signed petitions will be collected and sent to both Representative Jane Harman, and the members, United States Postal Service, Postal Regulatory Commission.

other than a "hermosa beach" postmark, is there really any service provided there that can't be satisfied by the office eight blocks away in redondo?

Completely agree ... I think the US postal service already is doing enough for us by picking up our mail 6 days a week. If you really need to mail a large item then make the drive to Redondo or one can use the free market shipper in UPS which has a location on Pier Ave.

By all means...more bars and less post offices!

Seriously, though...we win.

Here's the Daily Breeze article.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED WITH THE EFFORT!

So bizarre that this can be claimed as a victory for the residents. I've lived in HB for 10 years now and have never been to that post office. I buy stamps at Vons and put mail in my mailbox. If I miss a shipment they send me to the redondo post office anyways.

I'd rather spend the money to keep that office open on creating bike paths along valley and pier ave or a parking structure.

PS: Bars are much more fun than post offices.

Default the Hermosa Beach postmark went away

15-20 years ago...the last time they tried to close the post office. It's considered a branch of the Redondo office. I'm not sure if there is even a Redondo Beach postmark. I think it's all marked Marina del Rey. Most of the mail I receive - bills and junk - don't have postmarks any more.
The Galleria substation used to be the best kept secret for Christmas package mailings.
